About the Course
Description
This module discusses the skills and knowledge required to provide care for people with life threatening diseases, ageing process and end of life care.
What to Expect
In this module, you'll learn to recognize the holistic needs of individuals in palliative care, extending beyond end-of-life. You'll support individuals and their families in expressing needs and preferences, adjusting communication techniques to meet these needs, and ensuring they have the necessary information and support. Respecting individual values, beliefs, and preferences for quality-of-life choices is emphasized. You will follow and interpret advance care directives, comply with end-of-life decisions, and monitor the impact on the person's family and carers. Observing and managing pain and other symptoms, documenting effectiveness, and addressing concerns about pain medication are key components. The module covers creating a supportive environment, respecting cultural preferences, and maintaining dignity during end-of-life care. You'll also learn to recognize needs outside your scope and refer them appropriately. Finally, you will regularly review and update the individualized plan and provide support immediately following death.
